Migration cells and simulant ovens
Primary technique on this service
14,000 sq. ft.
Integrated laboratory in Jaipur
This service measures what moves from packaging into food. Articles are held against food simulants under defined time and temperature conditions, and the substances that migrate out, monomers, plasticisers, metals and additives, are quantified against FSSAI and EU limits.
Qualifying a new film, laminate, container or utensil
FSSAI packaging compliance for a product already on shelf
Switching resin grade, supplier or printing ink
A buyer or retailer audit asks for migration data
What we test on this service
Panels are built from the list below. Tell us the market and the specification and we select the parameters it calls for rather than selling you the whole sheet.
Overall migration into food simulants
Specific migration of monomers, plasticisers and additives
Heavy metal extractables from ceramics, metals and melamine
Phthalates and bisphenol A
Sensory and odour transfer
Coating adhesion and grease resistance

How the analysis runs
Instrumentation and controls
Every batch runs with the controls its method requires, on calibrated equipment, and a second analyst reviews the data before the report is released.

Questions we get asked
Which simulant applies to my product?
It depends on the food type and contact conditions. Tell us the product and fill temperature and we select the simulant set the regulation prescribes.
Do I need to test every colour of the same article?
Yes where the pigment or masterbatch differs, because heavy metal extractables depend on the colourant.
Can you test a laminate as a whole?
Yes. Migration is tested on the finished structure with the food contact layer facing the simulant, which is how the regulation intends it.
How often should packaging be retested?
On every change of resin grade, supplier, ink or structure, and otherwise annually for the products already in use.
