Universal testing machine
Primary technique on this service
14,000 sq. ft.
Integrated laboratory in Jaipur
This service identifies a polymer and measures how it behaves: melt flow, density and filler content on the material side, tensile, impact and stress crack resistance on the performance side. Compostability and RoHS element testing cover the regulatory claims attached to plastics.
Incoming inspection of resin or a moulded component
Failure analysis after a part cracked, warped or leaked
Substantiating a compostable or biodegradable claim
Meeting an IS, ASTM or customer specification on a pipe, film or container
What we test on this service
Panels are built from the list below. Tell us the market and the specification and we select the parameters it calls for rather than selling you the whole sheet.
Polymer identification by FTIR and DSC
Melt flow index, density and filler content
Tensile, impact, flexural and hardness properties
Environmental stress crack resistance
Heavy metals and RoHS elements
Biodegradability and compostability parameters
Method
How the analysis runs
Instrumentation and controls
Every batch runs with the controls its method requires, on calibrated equipment, and a second analyst reviews the data before the report is released.
Standards and methods
Results are reported against the method below, or against your buyer's specification where you send one with the sample.
Ask for the full NABL scope document if you need to confirm accredited coverage before sending the sample.
Not sure which parameters your buyer wants?
Send us the specification. We will tell you what to test and what it costs, at no charge.
The approvals this work is issued under
Reported under NABL TC-5843 against the relevant IS, ASTM or ISO specification, including CPCB requirements for compostable plastic certification support.
Before you send it
1 kg of granules, 1 square metre of film, or 5 finished parts, with the grade name and the applicable specification.
7 to 10 working days. Compostability testing runs to the method timeline, up to 180 days.
Polymer processors and compounders
Pipe, fitting and container manufacturers
Brands under EPR and plastic waste obligations
Automotive and appliance component suppliers

Questions we get asked
Can you confirm a compostable plastic claim?
We test the IS 17088 parameters including heavy metals, volatile solids and disintegration. Full biodegradation runs on the standard timeline, so plan for it.
Can you identify an unknown polymer?
FTIR with DSC will identify the base polymer and usually the filler content. Send 100 grams or one moulded part.
Why did my part fail in service but pass tensile testing?
Tensile testing measures short-term strength. Environmental stress cracking, fatigue and UV ageing are what usually cause field failures.
How long does compostability testing really take?
Disintegration and the chemical parameters take about eight weeks. Full biodegradation runs up to 180 days by method.
